Eucharist

The Eucharist (or Mass, or Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion) is widely regarded as the central sacrament of the Christian Church, and the high point of its worship. Christ’s sacrificial offering of himself for the world is unfolded in the midst of worshippers in the elements of bread and wine. And worshippers are, in turn, enfolded in Christ by their participation in his body and blood. Christians have discerned resonances of this mysterious exchange between God and humanity throughout the Bible’s stories—both anticipations and echoes of it. These exhibitions explore some of them, as well as reflecting on the texts that describe the Last Supper and Jesus’s institution of the Eucharist.
